What Issues is BOTOX Used to Treat?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a popular non-surgical option for men and women for smoothening the wrinkles and fine lines caused by age, smoking, sun exposure, and repetitive facial movements.  By blocking the muscular nerve signals, BOTOX® Cosmetic relaxes the muscle and diminishes those undesired lines, which restores a youthful appearance.

How Does BOTOX Cosmetic Work?

Botox San Antonio

BOTOX® is the first and only FDA-approved prescription, that when injected, improves the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles. This injection blocks nerve impulses in the face and causes the skin to return to its natural youthful form. BOTOX can improve the appearance lines between the brows, crow's feet, as well as numerous other facial regions that are affected by continual muscle contraction.

Why Choose Dr. Belz for BOTOX Injections?

BOTOX Cosmetic can only be administered by a qualified trained physician such as Dr. Jessica Belz. Dr. Belz has extensive experience working with and administering BOTOX injections. With her experience, Dr. Belz is able to provide patients with a customized approach to BOTOX helping to reach the patient's aesthetic goals.

How Safe are BOTOX Injections?

BOTOX is one of the safest and most commonly practiced procedures that can be performed. Dr. Belz will walk through any concerns that you may have before the procedure takes place and will be available for any questions you may have following your BOTOX injection.

Will BOTOX® Make Me Look Unnatural?

It used to be relatively common for people to look less natural after receiving BOTOX® injections. That was then, this is now! Today, we are much more aware of the ways that this injectable can affect appearance. Dr. Belz has a great deal of training and experience utilizing this product, and has a strong history of very successful treatments. During your consultation, she can discuss with you the number of units of Botox® that would be ideal for your desired outcome, as well as where she will place the product to achieve the most satisfying, natural-looking results.

How Does a BOTOX® Brow Lift Work?

You can blame your over-used corrugator muscles for those pesky frown lines. The corrugators pull downward at the center of the eyebrows. You can see them in action if you observe yourself frowning. The BOTOX Brow Lift works by injecting a small amount of the neuromodulator into those muscles. As the muscles relax, the brow remains in a lifted position. What if your brows are drooping at the outer edges? You can still benefit from BOTOX injections. In that situation, the neuromodulator is injected into the orbicularis oculi muscle. As that muscle relaxes, the outer curve of the brows lifts to a natural-looking, more youthful position.

Can I Combine a BOTOX® Brow Lift with Upper Eyelid Surgery?

One of the issues with a descending brow line is that the upper eyelids may look extraordinarily hooded. Sometimes, though, hooding stems from loose eyelid tissue. If you're a good candidate for upper eyelid surgery with Dr. Belz and you also want to restore a more accentuated, youthful brow position, you may combine your eyelid rejuvenation surgery with a BOTOX Brow Lift. The thing is, your injectable treatment will likely be scheduled at least a few weeks after your surgical procedure. It's ideal to wait until your swelling and bruising have subsided so your body makes the best use of the neuromodulator.

Is There Anything I Should Avoid After Getting BOTOX®?

BOTOX offers several benefits. One of them is that the aftercare instructions associated with this treatment are not extensive. In fact, if your daily activities do not involve strenuous physical activity or a lot of sun exposure, you may go right back to your daily routine after your treatment. You can walk, clean, cook, and drive safely after getting BOTOX, but you should avoid exercise for about 24 hours. It's also necessary to avoid heat. No hot tub use or steamy showers for two days.

It's important not to lie down for four to five hours, nor to rub or touch the treatment area. If it would be advantageous for you, Dr. Belz may advise you to perform light facial exercises, such as frowning, to help with product absorption. Do not do this unless you are instructed to. While discomfort is usually very easily tolerated after BOTOX injections, you may want to take an over-the-counter pain reliever. It is necessary to avoid the use of aspirin or ibuprofen, as these products may increase bruising. Tylenol may be a suitable alternative. Contact our office for appropriate instructions on pain relief if necessary.
